Winter Solstice is here! What a 2017 that has been! Now we enter a time of finding our way through the dark, unknown snowy path of winter. Looking within to find the answers and trust our guidance system to lead us down the best path. As we travel here, it is important that we choose carefully what we wish to take with us on the journey.
With that in mind, here is an outline of a Winter Solstice ritual to help you choose wisely what energy you will carry down the unknown path of the winter season, moving to a place of ease, self-trust and flow.
Your intuition is heightened at this time, so now more than ever trust it to lead the way. Create a ritual that feels right for you.
What you’ll need:
- Candle
- Notebook and Pen
- Guided Meditation or other modality for release
- Way to connect to the Earth (grounding stone such as hematite, plant, tree or if the temperature is right working outside)
- Way to cleanse your physical body (Epsom salt bath or foot bath or create a scrub from salt and your fave essential oils and a carrier base oil like coconut or sweet almond)
- A celebratory treat such as tea, a decadent piece of dark chocolate or similar
- A big glass of water
- Oracle cards if you choose
Prep your goods and find some time where you won’t be interrupted. I have previously done this ritual in my bathroom (because of kids and it’s the best door that locks), tub filled with steaming hot water and candlelight.
Winter Solstice Ritual
Element #1 RELEASE > This is an important aspect, as we don’t want to carry heavy energy with us down the winter path. You can choose to roll this in a few ways. If you do energy work or EFT tapping you can get specific about the things you want to release, or you can listen to a guided energy healing meditation that you feel drawn to. I’ve made this super simple with my 1212 meditation which takes time to allow you to release 2017 and welcome in 2018 (it’s on sale for $27 Reg.$97 until the end of December). Have a big glass of water nearby and drink it up as you/ after you complete the release, your journal is also handy for any insights that came through. Be sure to ground after the release. I like to make this the time to enter into an epsom salt bath or foot bath to both ground and do a physical cleanse.
Element #2 INTENTION & OPEN TO RECEIVE > Here is where you open your heart and energy to the Divine. Light up your candle safely if you choose. To feeling really good and receiving guidance on your path and next steps. This can be as simple as breathing with your hand on your heart for a few minutes and repeating “I am open to receive, thank you. I am open to guidance that is highest and best, thank you. I am open to the Divine, thank you.”. You may also choose to focus on each chakra in turn or open and expand them. Breathe in this space as you feel the Source energy start to move through you. It’s kinda like a full body smile.
Element #3 GUIDANCE > Now is the time to whip our your cards if you choose to do so, or your fave journal – or both! Quietly ask specific questions or ask what is highest and best guidance for you at this time. What is most beneficial for your growth and progress to move forward? Let the information flow. Don’t judge or control, just relax through this. If you are choosing to use oracle cards be sure to really let your intuition guide you. Don’t tale words verbatim from the book, allow your focus to soften and ask what aspects of this card most relate to me?
Element #4 CELEBRATION > You made it! This hasn’t been a terribly easy year for many of us – but we are here, wiser and stronger than before. It’s time to recognize that in yourself now. Focus on an go through how you have grown in 2017 and thank yourself. Surround yourself with pink compassion light and feel the gratitude you have for yourself. Congratulate yourself on a job well done. If this feels tricky for you make a note to do some more release work and increase your self-acceptance in early 2018. Have your treat and sit back to soak in the self-gratitude energy that will help to spring you forward on your journey with ease and grace.
